          Phillip DeVillier, 47, is a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. DeVillier was just voted in as the new Speaker with the full support of Landry’s administration as well as his fellow candidates - something that hasn’t happened in over a decade in the state of Louisiana. So who exactly is Phillip DeVillier?
          DeVillier's political career began seven years ago when he was elected to the chamber in 2015. He officially joined the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2016 representing District 41 in Acadia, Evangeline and St. Landry parishes. He earned a business management degree from Louisiana State University and previously owned DeVillier House Movers.
          In 2015, DeVillier defeated his opponents Germaine Simpson and Greg Fruge in the October primary - earning 55% of the votes and officially coming into office in January 2016 - succeeding term-limited Democratic Representative Mickey Guillory. In 2019, DeVillier also won election outright against his opponents in the primary election held on October 12th.
          In 2019 he was assigned to the Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development Committee. And From 2019 to 2022, DeVillier was assigned to the Joint Capital Outlay Committee, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee and the Ways and Means Committee. In 2023, he also became chairman to the House Retirement Committee.
DeVillier has sponsored 25 bills throughout his career. His support covers issues from COVID-19 mandates, tax exemptions, military discounts, drug distribution penalties, public school requirements, telehealth requirements, community development and many more. This shows that he is active in his role and has a desire to fix the issues faced in many Louisiana communities.
