Presidential Election Result - Editorial

Austin Paradelas

Nov 12, 2024

(BATON ROUGE, La) Former president Donald Trump scored not just a victory but a blowout victory over Vice President Harris in what is considered an upset for the century. After months of polling showing a hotly contested race that will be decided by a handful of voters in a handful of states, we now see that not only was this a victory, but it was a landslide in the most conservative sense.

With the state of the race being contingent upon the votes of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Arizona, Georgia and Nevada, I was sure that election night would drag on and become election week. With so many states causing the election to lean one way or the other, it was obvious that we were going to see a victory of less than 10 points on the road to 270. What was not called for is former president Donald Trump cruising through every single swing state and turning the electoral map into a true-to-the-core red wave.

Vice President Harris conceded the race the day after election day, though Trump had already given his victory speech around 3:00 a.m. that morning. Most major broadcasters had already called the race at that point, and truthfully, the Harris campaign should have conceded the evening of election night. Regardless, a concession is a concession, and we now await January 20th for Trump to become our 47th president of the United States.

As if the impressive election victory wasn’t enough, in the days following the commanding victory, world powers quickly bent their knees, and the world, foreign and domestic, is changing for the better. Vladimir Putin of Russia has come out and pledged to negotiate peace in Eastern Europe. Xi Jinping of China has openly stated through public channels and through a personal phone call to Trump himself that they want peace, not conflict, with the American people and that China wants to foster good relations and nothing more. Following Trump’s victory, a Hamas official has come out calling for an end to the war in Gaza. The world is coming together with a strong leader at the helm yet again. It’s as if every enemy of America that has been causing trouble just threw their hands up and said, “Hey, man, we were just goofing around, don’t hurt us.”

Stateside, the Dow Jones is up over 2,800 points, financial institutions are lowering requirements for business loans and capital loans, interest rates for borrowing are coming down and companies are breathing sighs of relief as more profitable times look to be on the horizon. For the American college student, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that there is going to be a competitive job for you after you graduate, and there will be no shortage of competition as we begin to foster a culture of growth, profitability and prosperity.

For business owners there will no longer be the problematic issue of bidding against companies who are subsidizing their business with illegal labor and undercutting American owned and operated businesses. The faucet that is the southern border will be closed and the country can return to its duty of caring for the American citizen first.

Though there will be angst and much dismay from college-age students regarding the election of former president Trump, it is for the best. The status of abortion will not be changed; there will be no federal regulations to or for the matter, and it will continue to be voted on state by state.

For the American citizen, there is a lot to be happy about, but for the American college student, this is a step towards correcting our country to be something it is supposed to be all along - better for each generation. With the prices of housing, childcare, groceries, energy and diplomatic support for foreign wars, people are struggling, and we are committing a great sin by not putting college-age Americans in a position of victory. It’s time we get a president at the helm who cares about real Americans, and not only is that precisely what happened, it’s what has happened in just the recent days of his election, and it’s only going to get better from here.
